Description
On arriving in Harlem, Atlanta born Larry Johnson met the Rev. Gary Davis, who he now credits as his mentor. Gary Davis recognised Larry’s talent and took him under his wing. Larry also began working with some of the best of Harlem’s bluesmen such as Brownie McGhee, Sonny Terry and Alec Seward.
For the last four decades he continued playing in New York and around the world. Larry has also appeared in several films. Veteran bluesman and expert player in the Stride Guitar style, Larry Johnson has produced an album showing his supreme guitar picking and Gospel tinged blues in Blues For Harlem. He has also included some Gary Davis songs.
Blues For Harlem is one of the finest and most involving blues records that I’ve heard in a long time.
